University of Phoenix Launches Mini-Documentary Series with Alum’s Gripping Everest Survival Story

New visual series expands on Degrees of Success™ podcast, bringing alumni journeys to life through cinematic storytelling

PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--University of Phoenix is proud to unveil a new mini-documentary series that extends the impactful storytelling of its popular Degrees of Success™ alumni podcast. The series kicks off with its first episode, “How I Survived Mount Everest,” now streaming on YouTube. Created to empower adult learners and working professionals with stories of perseverance and purpose, the series brings real experiences to life through compelling visuals and authentic alumni stories.

Building on the podcast’s mission and thriving YouTube following, the mini-documentary series offers a deeper, more immersive look into the lives of University of Phoenix alumni. Each episode highlights the resilience and determination that shape their journeys, revealing how they’ve turned personal trials into moments of growth and inspired others to live with intention, courage, and conviction.

The premiere episode features Brian Dickinson, a University of Phoenix alum, former faculty member and former Navy aviation rescue swimmer who recounts his solo descent from the summit of Mount Everest after being struck with sudden snow blindness. With no vision and limited oxygen, Dickinson’s survival is a gripping testament to the human spirit, faith and the will to overcome impossible odds.

“What struck me most about Brian’s story wasn’t just the danger he faced. It was the clarity, humility, and purpose that emerged from it,” says Freda Richards, host of Degrees of Success™ and Digital Campaign Manager at University of Phoenix. “His experience challenges us to reflect on our own paths and reminds us that even in isolation, we’re never truly alone when we’re guided by conviction and faith.”

The Degrees of Success™ mini-documentary series will continue to release new episodes quarterly throughout the year, each one offering a unique lens into the lives of alumni who exemplify courage, leadership, and lifelong learning.
