Hamilton District Labour Council to Join WSIB Picket Line as Strike Approaches Three Weeks
HAMILTON, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As the strike by 3,600 members of the Ontario Compensation Employees Union (OCEU/CUPE 1750) approaches its third week, the Hamilton District Labour Council (HDLC) will join picketing WSIB workers for a solidarity rally on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at noon.
The rally will take place on the picket line outside the WSIB office in Hamilton, where frontline staff have been demanding fair wages, safer workplaces, and an end to the outsourcing of Ontario jobs.
Speakers at the rally will include:
- Harry Goslin, President, OCEU/CUPE 1750
- Yolanda McClean, Secretary Treasurer, CUPE Ontario
- Fred Hahn, President, CUPE Ontario
Where:
- WSIB Office - 120 King St W, Hamilton, ON L8P 4V2
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Hamilton labour community for showing up in solidarity,” said Harry Goslin, President of OCEU/CUPE 1750. “Our members have now been on strike for nearly three weeks; that’s far too long for workers to be waiting for fairness. It’s time for WSIB and the Ford government to come back to the table with a deal that respects the people who keep this system running and support injured workers every single day.”
OCEU/CUPE 1750 members have been walking the line across Ontario, standing up against chronic understaffing, stagnant wages, and the erosion of public services through privatization. Workers are calling on WSIB leadership and the Ford government to deliver a fair deal that protects Ontario jobs and restores dignity to Ontario’s workers’ compensation system.
