Bradford Health Services Reaffirms Commitment to Veterans, Clarifies Position on Eastern Alabama Healthcare Center

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Bradford Health Services, a national leader in behavioral health treatment, reaffirms its dedication to veterans following recent claims suggesting opposition to a proposed veteran-focused healthcare center in eastern Alabama.

Unwavering Commitment to Veteran Care

Since 2023, Bradford Health Services has provided comprehensive treatment to over 650 veterans through residential programs in Madison and Warrior, Alabama. As a contracted provider for Humana Military (formerly Tricare East) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Bradford Health offers detoxification, residential, and outpatient services, ensuring high-quality care for veterans.

"Services like those at Bradford Health Services are vital for our service members and veterans impacted by service-related issues leading to self-medicating with drugs or alcohol," said Ty Oswald, founder of Bearded Warriors, a nonprofit dedicated to serving veterans nationwide. "The fact that Bradford Health works with the VA provides full-circle support to veterans and ensures those seeking services receive the best care available, which is why we continue to trust them with our service members and veterans."

Ensuring Efficient Use of Resources for Veterans

Recent reports have suggested that Bradford Health is obstructing efforts to expand veteran healthcare in the region. This is inaccurate. Bradford Health fully supports initiatives that enhance access to care while ensuring that existing resources are utilized effectively to meet the needs of veterans.

"We strongly believe in expanding care for those who have served our country, but it is equally important that resources are used efficiently to provide immediate and accessible treatment," said Michael Leal, National Director of Veteran Services, and Veteran himself, at Bradford Health. "With more than 200 licensed beds and outpatient services available seven days a week, we have ample capacity to provide care to veterans today."

Bradford Health's Hero’s Path program is designed to meet the unique needs of veterans and active-duty service members, utilizing evidence-based trauma therapies such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting. The program offers same-day availability to ensure no veteran in need is left waiting for care.

A Collaborative Approach to Expanding Care

Bradford Health believes that any new developments should complement, not duplicate, existing services. The organization remains committed to working with government agencies, nonprofits, and veteran organizations to strengthen and expand the continuum of care in ways that directly benefit veterans.

"Our focus is ensuring that every veteran struggling with substance use disorder can access care immediately and without unnecessary barriers," said Leal. "Bradford Health is, and will continue to be, a trusted resource for our service members and veterans."
