Seattle Prostate Cancer Educational Symposium Set for June 23

SEATTLE--()--As a part of Men’s Health Month in June, Us TOO International will present Prostate Cancer Pathways for Patients and Caregivers, a free educational event and webcast. The event will take place on Saturday, June 23, at Evergreen Health Medical Center, 12040 NE 128th St., (in the Red Auditorium), in Kirkland, WA. Doors open at 9:00 am for the event from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm (Pacific Time). Registration is free and attendees can participate in-person or online via a live webcast with audio and video from the event. A free lunch will be provided to pre-registered, in-person attendees.

The event addresses the importance of awareness and education about prostate cancer, a common health risk for men as they age and a disease that has no symptoms until it’s advanced. Responding to a prostate cancer diagnosis or managing the disease requires a wide range of information to understand and consider all appropriate options. This includes information on active surveillance and the advantages and disadvantages of various treatment options, along with realistic pre-treatment expectations for potential post-treatment management of side effects.

The first hour of the Pathways event will provide important information with a brief overview of men’s wellness and health risks including prostate cancer, followed by prostate cancer medical experts presenting educational content for managing prostate cancer that’s newly diagnosed, recurring, or advanced. The general public is encouraged to attend the first portion of the presentation and welcome to stay for the entire symposium, which will present information focused on men and their caregivers/partners who are managing prostate cancer. Symposium topics will also include genomics along with psychosocial issues related to coping with the challenges of diagnosis and treatment. Presenters for the Seattle Pathways event include:

  • Dr. Heather Cheng – Director at Prostate Cancer Genetics Clinic
  • Katie Stoll, MS, LGC – Executive Director at Genetic Support Foundation
  • Dr. Brian D. Lawenda – Radiation Oncologist at Northwest Cancer Clinic and 21st Century Oncology
  • Dr. Cobie Whitten – Psycho-Oncology Consultant at Providence Regional Cancer System
  • Dr. Jonathan Wright – Medical Director at the UWMC Urology Clinic

For free registration, visit: www.mainstreamchicago.com/pathwaysseattle or contact Terri at 877-978-7866 or terril@ustoo.org. Please note that on-site space is limited. We will attempt to accommodate those registering in-person on the day of the event, but we cannot guarantee a space or a free lunch.

The final session of the symposium will feature an exclusive presentation for prostate cancer support group leaders in the Us TOO network. Educational content will expand upon the general session and focus on maximizing their impact on the local prostate cancer community.

The Seattle Pathways event is the first of three regional events planned for 2018. The series schedule also includes symposium events in Englewood, NJ (NYC metro area) on September 23, and Chicago, IL, on November 3. Each of the three Pathways events will feature new content and different presentations from some of the top prostate cancer physicians and medical experts.

Presenting sponsor of the Seattle Pathways event is Janssen Oncology. Supporting sponsors are Astellas, Pfizer, Bayer, Sanofi Genzyme, Abbvie, and Color. The event host is Evergreen Health Medical Center in collaboration with the Us TOO Washington Prostate Cancer Support Groups and the Washington Prostate Cancer Coalition.
