Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi Commemorates Late Sheikh Zayed at Zayed International Charity Marathon in New York

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates--()--The Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) is organizing cultural and heritage activities as part of the 14th Zayed International Charity Marathon, ‘UAE Healthy Kidney 10K’, to be held at Central Park in New York on April 29, 2018.

“Our participation in the Zayed International Charity Marathon carries added importance as it comes in the ‘Year of Zayed’.”

The marathon is held in memory of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding leader of the UAE, in addition to highlighting Emirati hospitality and the unique tourism experiences in Abu Dhabi.

The annual marathon, organized by New York Road Runners (NYRR) in cooperation with the UAE Embassy in Washington, the UAE Consulate General in New York and the National Kidney Foundation of the United States, honors the legacy of Sheikh Zayed's humanitarian and charity work, spreading awareness of kidney disease and the importance of healthy lifestyles. Proceeds of the marathon go to support research on treatment of kidney diseases.

HE Saif Saeed Ghobash, Undersecretary, DCT Abu Dhabi, said: “Our participation in the Zayed International Charity Marathon carries added importance as it comes in the ‘Year of Zayed’.

“This event is a year-long celebration of the noble values established by our late founding father, as well as his projects and initiatives, which have helped better the lives and alleviate the suffering of nations worldwide. The objectives of the Marathon are in line with DCT Abu Dhabi’s vision and its commitment to its social responsibilities.”

Reflecting warm Emirati hospitality, DCT Abu Dhabi’s pavilion at Central Park will feature traditional art demonstrations such as Arabic calligraphy and henna inscriptions, while offering visitors delicious dates, Arabic coffee, prize giveaways and souvenirs.

“Inspired by the values of the late Sheikh Zayed, the events and activities we organize focus on the UAE’s ancient heritage, arts and culture, introducing them to the New York public. The marathon is a unique opportunity to engage a large segment of the American society and introduce them to our tourist destination, Abu Dhabi, and the entertainment and cultural experiences it offers its visitors throughout the year,” Ghobash added.
