TRUEbenefits LLC Identifies and Addresses Security Incident

SEATTLE--()--Today, TRUEbenefits LLC (TRUEbenefits) announced that it is addressing a security incident involving personal information of certain clients’ members. As authorized by the clients, TRUEbenefits is proactively notifying the potentially affected individuals to explain the incident, the responsive measures TRUEbenefits has taken, and steps the individuals can take to protect themselves. TRUEbenefits is also offering complimentary identity protection services to potentially affected individuals.

On May 19, 2017, a phishing email was sent from the email account of an employee of TRUEbenefits without the employee’s knowledge. When TRUEbenefits determined that the email was sent illegitimately to perpetuate the phishing scheme, it immediately secured the employee’s email account, began an investigation, and engaged a leading forensic firm. TRUEbenefits conducted a thorough review of the employee’s email account.

On June 26, 2017, TRUEbenefits determined that an unauthorized person had access to the employee’s email account. Some of the employee’s emails contained personal information, including Social Security numbers, health insurance numbers, claims information, dates of service, provider names, diagnoses or treatment information, and explanation of benefits, invoice amount, or invoice statement.

TRUEbenefits has no indication that the information in the emails was actually viewed or has been used in any way. However, TRUEbenefits is proactively notifying the potentially affected individuals to provide guidance on how they can protect themselves. As part of this protection, for eligible individuals, the company is offering a complimentary two-year membership in credit monitoring and identity theft protection services through Experian. More information is available on TRUEbenefits' website: Individuals with questions should call 1-888-457-2326, Monday-Friday between 6:00 am to 6:00 pm Pacific Time.

TRUEbenefits understands the importance of protecting the security and confidentiality of personal information, sincerely regrets that this incident occurred, and apologizes for any inconvenience or concern the incident may cause. To help prevent something like this from happening in the future, TRUEbenefits has conducted additional training and education for its employees regarding phishing emails, enhanced email security, and amended its email retention policies.
