Employee Rights Attorney Carney Shegerian Named to Armenian Bar Association’s Judicial Evaluation Committee

LOS ANGELES--()--Carney Shegerian of Shegerian & Associates, Inc., a Santa Monica-based litigation law firm specializing in employee rights, has been named to the Armenian Bar Association’s newly-established Judicial Evaluation Committee (JEC).

“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to have been asked to participate in this vitally important committee alongside such a consortium of esteemed colleagues, each with celebrated and storied careers of their own”

Shegerian, seen by many as the pre-eminent employment law trial attorney in the United States, has achieved among the largest jury verdicts recorded in Los Angeles County history in the field of employee rights. He has been recognized as Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Consumer Attorneys of Los Angeles County, and his record of success for his clients, whether via substantial settlements or in a trial jury scenario, is unparalleled. He has made it his life's mission to help those who have been wronged in the workplace and has won over 75 jury trials, including 32 seven-figure verdicts as a plaintiff's attorney.

Shegerian was invited to participate in the committee alongside its esteemed co-chairpersons, noted criminal defense attorney Garo Ghazarian and seasoned Glendale Senior Assistant City Attorney Lucy Varpetian. They are joined on the committee by a veritable California all-star team of local legal excellence, including Armen K. Hovannisian, Ara Jabagchourian, Alexandra Kazarian, Saro Kerkonian, Edvin Minassian, Tina Odjaghian, Warren Paboojian, and Dickran Semerdjian.

The committee’s mission is to evaluate applicants and potential appointees to the California judicial bench and to make recommendations to the Governor and the Appointments Secretary for those candidates who are deemed to be well qualified.

“The organizing body recognized that to have an effective voice in the judicial appointment process, it would be necessary that the recommendations be made by those with proven talent and relevant experience as trial attorneys,” said Armenian Bar Chairman Saro Kerkonian. “We are very excited that Carney Shegerian has agreed to join us as we embark on this new mission for the Armenian Bar Association. We believe that, through our united efforts, we will soon see the appointment of a growing number of highly well-qualified attorneys of Armenian descent making the ranks of California’s distinguished judiciary.”

The framework for the committee’s calling and charge was developed with the strategic guidance and advice of recently retired California Supreme Court Justice and Honorary Armenian Bar Lifetime Member, Marvin Baxter. For several years before his own appointment to the bench, Justice Baxter served as Appointments Secretary to California Governor George Deukmejian.

“It is a tremendous honor and privilege to have been asked to participate in this vitally important committee alongside such a consortium of esteemed colleagues, each with celebrated and storied careers of their own,” said Shegerian. “I look forward to working alongside these luminaries of our profession to help make a positive impact upon the future of the legal process in our state.”
