PrescribeWellness Announces Medication Synchronization Enrollment Challenge

IRVINE, Calif.--()--PrescribeWellness, the cloud-based services company whose mission is to inspire collaboration for better health, announced that they have challenged their pharmacies across America to enroll their patients in Medication Synchronization (Med Sync) and build a pharmacy practice that embraces the appointment-based model.

“Addressing Medication Non-Adherence through Implementation of an Appointment-Based Medication Synchronization Network”

“Millions of Americans are on four or more maintenance medications. Multiple physicians often write a patient’s scripts, resulting in different fill dates each month,” said Al Babbington, President & Chief Executive Officer of PrescribeWellness. “We recognize that there is an opportunity to significantly improve the health of Americans through medication synchronization and we are excited to have the opportunity to work with thousands of pharmacies to do just that.”

PrescribeWellness has already demonstrated the value of Med Sync, where patients pick up their prescriptions on the same day each month, through their participation in the study conducted with the National Community Pharmacists Association in cooperation with the Arkansas Pharmacists Association, “Addressing Medication Non-Adherence through Implementation of an Appointment-Based Medication Synchronization Network”. The study proved that patients enrolled in a Med Sync program are 2.5 times more likely to be adherent to their medications and 21% less likely to discontinue drug therapy.

“We are challenging our pharmacies to make Med Sync the foundational component to their appointment-based pharmacy practice and to maximize the number of patients enrolled in Med Sync,” said Al. “Enrolling patients in Med Sync is a recognized way to improve patient adherence and Star Ratings. It also generates additional pharmacy revenue, with recent studies showing an increase of 20 additional fills per patient per year.”

“PrescribeWellness has made it much easier to add Med Sync patients and allow us to manage and grow our Med Sync business,” said Jim Cherry, RPh, Owner, The Medicine Shoppe in Somerset, Kentucky.

The Challenge, which begins today and runs for four months, was created to raise pharmacy and patient awareness of Med Sync. PrescribeWellness’ Med Sync software module, StarWellness, has been enhanced to make the process easier to identify, recruit, conduct and sustain patients in an appointment-based process. Participating pharmacists can work closely with the clinical staff from PrescribeWellness to overcome the obstacles of starting and sustaining a Med Sync offering. Additionally, PrescribeWellness will provide educational webinars, one-on-one training, and access to its online University for additional resources.
