Scott Hanson of Pasadena, CA Wins $2 Million at FanDuel’s Fantasy Football Championship in Las Vegas

FanDuel Mints Two Millionaires in One Day at the World’s Largest Fantasy Football Tournament

LAS VEGAS--()--Scott Hanson won FanDuel’s flagship event, the World Fantasy Football Championship, beating out 99 other competitors from around the country to take home the $2 million first prize and a private plane ride home through JetSmarter. While millions of fantasy football players across the country battled for their season-long league championship against friends and colleagues, FanDuel minted two new millionaires and paid out a total of $7 million dollars in the one-day tournament to the 100 competitors.

“Thanks to FanDuel for this incredible opportunity.”

“Being crowned the FanDuel World Fantasy Football Champion is a dream come true,” said Hanson. “Thanks to FanDuel for this incredible opportunity.”

In addition to the $2 million first place prize, Eric Snead of Virginia won $1 million for coming in second place while John Lovelace of Atlanta, GA won $500,000 for coming in third place.

"We want to congratulate Scott Hanson for winning the FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship on a $2 qualifying league," said Nigel Eccles, FanDuel CEO and co-founder. "Scott is a new player that’s only deposited $35 on FanDuel and has managed to turn that into more than two million dollars in one NFL season. Having players like him join the site has helped us grow and offer life-changing opportunities to football fans around the country."

To compete in the FanDuel Fantasy Football Championship, players won one of 72 qualifying leagues held from Week 1 to Week 13 of the NFL season. Entry fees for the qualifying leagues ranged from $2 to $1,065, with league sizes capped from 108 to 59,482 players based on the entry fees. Each qualifying league winner won an all-expense luxury trip to Las Vegas for the Championship, which took place at The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino.

This year's $2 million first prize is the largest of any fantasy sports competition.
