CH2M HILL Welcomes Government’s Two Million Apprenticeship Milestone

LONDON--()--CH2M HILL welcomes today’s announcement from Business Secretary The Rt Hon Vince Cable MP that the Government has fulfilled its commitment to starting two million apprenticeships in this Parliament.

Today’s announcement highlights the success of apprenticeships since 2010 in providing young people with the necessary skills to enter the workplace and in helping businesses around the UK to grow and nurture talent. CH2M HILL is committed to encouraging more young people to enter the construction and engineering sector and to develop the skills and talent vital to industry.

CH2M HILL, who currently work on the engineering and programme management of some of Europe's most iconic infrastructure projects, already works closely with Government and industry to promote the uptake of apprenticeships. CH2M HILL was one of the founding six companies that helped form the Technician Apprenticeship Consortium (TAC) in 2010 and was one of the leading firms involved in the development of the new Railway Engineering Design Technician Apprenticeship, which was announced by the Minister of State for Skills and Equalities, Nick Boles MP, earlier this year.

CH2M HILL’s Director for European Corporate Affairs, Jonathan Refoy, said: “We congratulate the Government on reaching this impressive milestone in the space of just four years. This drive to increase apprenticeships has provided many young people with an alternative way of entering into careers in the engineering industry. We hope today’s news will encourage even more companies to offer apprenticeship opportunities to young people and help make a vital contribution to the UK economy.”

Fiona Keenaghan, a CH2M HILL apprentice working on the Thames Tideway Tunnel project and recently named Inspirational Apprentice of the Year at the STEMNet awards, said: “The CH2M HILL apprenticeship programme has given me the chance to develop skills and offered me countless opportunities that I otherwise would not have been able to experience. I hope that many more young people will continue to take up similar opportunities so that they can benefit from the same experiences I have had.”
