Damen Selects Evoqua SeaCURE™ Ballast Water Treatment (BWT) System for One Stop BWT Retrofitting Service

  • Damen to offer ship owners SeaCURE electrochlorination BWT system operable in all salinities through its global One Stop BWT Retrofitting Service
  • SeaCURE in-situ side stream biocide generation eliminates need for chemicals and also minimizes footprint making it an ideal choice for retrofits
  • IMO type approved and USCG AMS accepted SeaCURE BWT system based on proven, widely deployed Chloropac® marine growth prevention system (MGPS) technology
  • Damen BWT experts use 3D scanning to create a custom engineering package for ship owners to use at Damen or yard of their choice

ALPHARETTA, Ga.--()--Damen Shipyards and Evoqua Water Technologies have agreed on a strategic relationship for the supply of Evoqua’s SeaCURE™ electrochlorination ballast water treatment (BWT) system through Damen’s worldwide One Stop BWT Retrofitting Service.

“We are very pleased to partner with Evoqua”

SeaCURE is an efficient, reliable, low cost to operate ballast water management system based on proven, widely deployed Chloropac® electrochlorination marine growth prevention system (MGPS) technology from Electrocatalytic, now an Evoqua brand. The SeaCURE system is IMO type approved and also USCG AMS accepted to operate in all salinities.

The Damen One Stop Service will give ship owners peace of mind in their challenge to comply with ballast water regulations in the most cost effective and timely way. Damen BWT experts use 3D scanning techniques to create a customized engineering package. Installation of a SeaCURE BWT system can be done at one of the 40 Damen Shiprepair & Conversion shipyards conveniently located worldwide or at a customer-selected non-Damen yard.

“We are very pleased to partner with Evoqua,” said Damen BWT Manager Gert-Jan Oude Egberink. “Now we can offer an electrochlorination BWT solution for owners whose needs are aligned with the benefits of this technology combined with Damen’s engineering capacity, vast knowledge of shipbuilding, global service capacity and purchasing power.”

“The relationship between Damen and Evoqua will help ship owners cost-effectively comply with ballast water regulations,” said SeaCURE Product Manager David Palmer. “Ship owners can have confidence in selecting proven Chloropac electrochlorination technology and in the expertise of Damen experts worldwide.”

The SeaCURE BWT system eliminates the need for storing or handling chemicals onboard due to in-situ generation of sodium hypochlorite from the natural salinity in sea water. Sodium hypochlorite biocide generation in a side stream taken off the ballast water main minimizes footprint making it an ideal choice for retrofits. Patented intake filter technology injects biocide into ballast seawater before it reaches the large surface filter intakes to reduce the growth of marine organisms that can clog the filters.

The SeaCURE system is based on the tested Chloropac marine growth prevention system (MGPS), which uses electrochlorination biocide generation and injection treatment for sea water cooling systems. More than 2,500 Chloropac systems have been fitted to ships and offshore rigs globally over the past 30 years.

One of the added benefits of the SeaCURE system is the option for the system to operate in MGPS mode when it is not being used for ballast water treatment which can significantly reduce the costs associated with the cleaning and overhaul of coolers, valves and pipework enabling cooling systems to work at optimum efficiency.
