ICSC and the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate Join Forces to Launch the First-Ever University of Shopping Centers West

LOS ANGELES--()--The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC), in collaboration with the USC Lusk Center for Real Estate, is bringing the popular ICSC University of Shopping Centers to the West Coast for the first time.

Previously only available on the East Coast through the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, the executive level education event will be held on the USC campus Oct. 14 - 16.

Industry leaders and educators, including members of the USC faculty, will conduct intensive training on cutting edge issues in a three-day session. Resembling a retail boot camp, the program gives attendees – from c-suite retail and real estate executives to entry-level professionals – a high level of industry knowledge that is immediately transferable to their businesses.

“As the retail industry continues its recovery from the recession, particularly on the West Coast, it’s vital that industry practitioners understand how changes in technology and demography will affect their industry in the years to come and how they can take advantage of these changes,” said Lusk Center Director Richard K. Green. “ICSC and the Lusk Center have assembled our top educators and industry experts to design a curriculum that provides timely insights into the issues affecting retailers and shopping centers of all shapes and sizes.”

Experts and industry professionals with an average of more than 20 years of experience in their respective fields will be covering various aspects of the real estate industry – including urban development, leasing, demographics in the housing market and investing – in 28 unique classes. Participants can choose one or multiple classes within the three-day period according to their particular interests.

The most pressing issues impacting companies of every size, every type of shopping center configuration, and every discipline will be discussed to help give mentees a clear understanding of what needs to be done in order to succeed. The program also includes special networking events, panel discussions and keynote speeches, including a Q&A session with Macerich Chairman and CEO Arthur M. Coppola that will be moderated by USC Lusk Center Chairman Stan Ross.

Attendees may also attend an optional study tour of Macerich project, Santa Monica Place, winner of the 2013 ICSC VIVA (Vision, Innovation, Value, Achievement) Best-of-the-Best Award, to explore the shining example of its development, sustainability, marketing and service to the Santa Monica area.
