HOUSTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Two former Vinson & Elkins senior litigation partners, Robert M. Schick and Morgan L. Copeland, Jr., announced the formation today of Schick & Copeland LLP, a new Houston litigation boutique law firm. Both Mr. Schick and Mr. Copeland joined Vinson & Elkins from law school, and over the past three decades have become highly-recognized trial lawyers – tenacious lawyers who collectively have first-chaired dozens of complex high-stakes jury trials in state and federal courts across the country.
Mr. Schick, a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, most recently co-led Vinson & Elkins’ highly regarded Litigation & Regulatory Department from 2011 to 2014; Chambers USA 2013 ranks the department as top-tier in Texas, and with several top-tier national rankings. Mr. Copeland for years has been ranked as one of Texas’ leading trial lawyers and has earned a reputation for deftly handling bet-the-company litigation.
Joining Schick & Copeland as Counsel is Sabrina Little DiMichele, who was an associate at Vinson & Elkins and most recently served as a staff attorney with the Texas Court of Appeals for the Fourteenth District, in Houston. The firm expects to add other lawyers in the near-term.
Commented Mr. Schick, “Morgan and I have been privileged to work together for more than 30 years, litigating crucial, complex cases at a pre-eminent global firm. Although in a way it was difficult to leave the friends and colleagues we’ve known for so long, and who do a spectacular job, we’ve long felt a desire to practice law in a different setting – a litigation-only firm defined by tenacity, decisiveness and the ability to conduct battle on our clients’ terms.”
Added Mr. Copeland, “We’re trial lawyers. We want to be in the courtroom trying cases and we’re going to do that whenever it meets our clients’ objectives. We look forward to building a firm that is agile and efficient, large enough to meet clients’ sophisticated needs but small enough so that clients know that we’ll personally be handling their work and they can reach us at any time.”
Mr. Copeland continued, “More than anything else, our goal is to be a strategic business partner to our clients, helping them achieve the best possible results. Certainly cost efficiency is part of that equation. Our value proposition will be in applying our substantial large-firm experience, always mindful of the financial issues and pressures that attend the handling of significant litigation, for clients of all sizes.”
The new firm will provide a broad range of complex commercial litigation services, in areas including business disputes, energy/oil & gas, construction, catastrophic events, environmental/toxic tort, class action/mass tort, intellectual property/trade secrets and products liability, as well as arbitration services.
