MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Symphony Teleca Corporation (STC), a global innovation and development services company, today announced its collaboration with Itron, Inc. (NASDAQ: ITRI), a leading technology company that helps utilities measure, manage and analyze energy and water, on the company’s Itron Insights application. Together, the companies have designed and developed this Windows 8 and Windows RT mobile and desktop application prototype that provides an aggregated and intelligent view of a city’s resource consumption to municipal governments. The touch-optimized application can be used across devices from Windows Surface tablets to mobile phones and desktops.
“We are thrilled to be working with Microsoft on its CityNext Initiative. Symphony Teleca’s design expertise, insight to new concepts and commitment to helping us meet our development goals has been nothing but a positive experience.”
As cities around the world face growing urban populations, aging infrastructures and shrinking financial resources, they are increasingly seeking energy-efficient solutions to meet evolving expectations and control costs. Being a key player in the smart metering space, Itron tapped into STC’s domain expertise in energy as well as its design capabilities to conceptualize and build the prototype, with the goal of addressing this ongoing, global challenge.
Itron Insights provides users with dynamic charts, graphs and maps that reveal an integrated view of the city’s electricity, gas and water consumption and related CO2 footprint alongside associated cost. The one-stop solution also offers drill-down capabilities for further analysis, embedded alerts and budget management tools, enabling cities to discover the best way to efficiently allocate resources.
“There is a rapidly growing market today for smart technologies that can help cities that are struggling with budgetary restrictions become more efficient,” said Russ Vanos, Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development at Itron. “We are thrilled to be working with Microsoft on its CityNext Initiative. Symphony Teleca’s design expertise, insight to new concepts and commitment to helping us meet our development goals has been nothing but a positive experience.”
“Our approach to innovation is ideal for fast growing, complex markets like smart energy because we consider the business, design and engineering needs from the onset of the relationship, allowing our clients to accelerate their vision into commercial reality,” said Pradeep U.N., Vice President and Global Head of Design and Innovation, Symphony Teleca. “With Itron Insights, we’re presenting energy usage, costs, location and timeframe together. This easy access helps city administrators intuitively explore a situation, making decisions based on trends and benchmarks with a single swipe of the finger: that is the power of natural user interface (NUI) in the enterprise. We are excited to be working with Itron and see this application as a powerful asset to city planners and municipal governments globally.”
