DENVER--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Join the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI) for November’s feature presentation: “What You Absolutely Must Know About Market Structure in the IR Chair Today.”
“What You Absolutely Must Know About Market Structure in the IR Chair Today.”
Investor Relations veteran and Founder and President of ModernIR, Tim Quast, will take an in-depth look into how modern equity markets work, what rattles them, and how we may use market structure to understand equity health.
On August 22, 2013, a key data artery for the stock market clogged, stopping Nasdaq trading for three hours. On May 6, 2010, the market suddenly plunged a thousand points before recovering most losses 20 minutes later, in what we now call “The Flash Crash.” On August 1, 2012, technological catastrophe struck venerable stock-trader Knight Capital when errant algorithms loaded its balance sheet with massive equity positions. The firm had to sell itself to pioneering high-frequency trader, Getco, and operates today as KCG Holdings. In light of these and other events like them, Quast’s presentation will explore questions such as:
- Why does the stock market sometimes seem like a James Bond movie – full of drama and explosions?
- What is vital to understand about the stock market in the IR profession?
