MINNEAPOLIS--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Capella University, a regionally accredited online university* that offers online degree programs designed to help working adults advance in their careers, has announced a redesign of its online Master of Science in Human Resource Management and its Human Resource Management certificate. Capella has also added a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR®) preparation course and revised its Professional in Human Resources (PHR®)/Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR®) preparation course, both of which can be taken as stand-alone courses or as electives in the MS in Human Resource Management program. As of Sept. 30, 2013, approximately 35,000 students were enrolled at Capella. The learning and career outcomes of Capella’s students and alumni can be found at www.capellaresults.org.
“We also wanted to acknowledge the credentials many HR professionals have already earned”
Aligned to current industry standards
“Human resource managers are often expected to lead change, so it’s critical that their knowledge and skills are cutting edge,” said Barbara Butts Williams, the dean of business in Capella’s School of Business and Technology. “We reviewed and revised our MS in Human Resource Management and certificate to ensure that they are aligned to the most current industry standards and employer needs. Our curriculum balances practice with research to deliver the business acumen and strategic thinking skills HR professionals need to be effective change managers, business partners, and industry leaders.” The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) has acknowledged that Capella University's MS in Human Resource Management fully aligns with SHRM's HR Curriculum Guidebook and Templates.
“We also wanted to acknowledge the credentials many HR professionals have already earned,” said Dr. Butts Williams. “Through our Prior Learning Assessment process, students can earn credit for the knowledge they have gained through industry certifications, including PHR®, SPHR®, and GPHR®. This allows them to finish their Human Resource Management master’s degree sooner, saving them time and money.”
Earn a credential or prepare for certification exams along the way
For students wishing to earn PHR®, SPHR®, or GPHR® certification sometime in the future, Capella offers preparation courses that can be taken as elective credits toward their MS in Human Resource Management. Students can also earn a Human Resource Management certificate while working on their master’s – providing the skills and credibility to make a more immediate impact.
Students can also pursue a Combined BS/MS Option in Human Resource Management, which allows students to take master’s-level courses while earning their bachelor’s degree, saving time and money over the cost of pursuing each degree separately.
