CHICAGO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--For Washington DC major-metro regions, including Washington-Arlington-Alexandria, DC-VA-MD-WV and Baltimore-Towson, MD, the 3rd quarter 2013 BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI™) reported a year-over-year increase in both private and public actively bidding construction projects. The 3rd quarter 2013 BCI data reported that total construction was up 12.5%, with private construction and public construction increasing 3.4% and 19%, respectively.
The total value of all Washington DC major-metro region projects reported on BidClerk that bid in the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $5.3 billion, compared to a $5.5 billion reported by the BCI for the 3rd quarter of 2012.
In a year-over-year analysis for the District of Columbia, third-quarter 2013 construction projects that were actively bidding increased 9.6%, compared to an increase of 15.3% reported by the BCI in the 3rd quarter of 2012.
In a year-over-year analysis for the Baltimore region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased 19%, compared to an increase of 2.3% reported by the BCI in the 2nd quarter of 2013.
High-profile projects in the DC metro region that BidClerk reported on in the 3rd quarter include the Exelon Headquarters (core and shell construction) in Baltimore, which is being built for an estimated $135 million. The general contractor is Armada Hoffler Construction from Virginia Beach, VA. Another notable project that BidClerk reported on was the Millennium Project at Arlington National Cemetery, which is being built for an estimated $59 million. The general contractor is Forrester Construction, which is based in Rockland, MD.
