SAN FRANCISCO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Bently Holdings is proud to announce the LEED Gold EBOM (Existing Building Operation Maintenance) certification of its headquarters building at 240 Stockton Street. This historic art deco building has a history of being at the forefront of sustainability: it was built in 1908 using recycled aggregate concrete from the buildings razed during the 1906 earthquake.
“Achieving LEED Gold certification is an accomplishment for any building, but the aptitude for a 100 year-old building to achieve such levels of sustainability is truly remarkable”
Bently Holdings has worked alongside Environmental Building Strategies (EBS) on this project since July 2011. The U.S. Green Building Council, the organization that awards LEED certifications, accepted all 67 credits that were submitted in support of the certification. Some of the building features that contributed to certification are its exemplary waste management system, the use of district steam to heat the building instead of natural gas, the use of high efficiency water source heat pumps and AC units, and the fact that 96% of janitorial materials and chemicals meet sustainable criteria. The waste management system incorporates ongoing tenant training on recycling, composting, and energy conservation. Building staff offers training and resources throughout the year on topics ranging from compost and recycling, to battery, furniture and e-waste pick-ups.
The most unique feature of this ongoing project is the requirement by Bently Holdings that all tenant build-outs seek LEED Silver CI (Commercial Interior) certification or higher. Bently Holdings is leading the charge by seeking a LEED Platinum CI certification for the company’s office build-out.
“Achieving LEED Gold certification is an accomplishment for any building, but the aptitude for a 100 year-old building to achieve such levels of sustainability is truly remarkable,” said Jake Arlein, Partner and Director of Certification Services for Environmental Building Strategies. “It is a testament to Bently Holdings’s commitment to sustainability, and the dedication of the facility management staff. EBS is proud to have partnered with Bently Holdings on this initiative, and we are excited to continue working together to improve operational efficiency and lower energy, waste, and water costs across its portfolio of properties.”
