MAYNARD, Mass.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--A global poll conducted by Monster.com reveals that the most feared workplace horrors are psycho bosses and back-stabbing colleagues. Respondents were split evenly on the terrors- each accounting for 40% of votes. Less frightening options, silent-as-a-grave workplaces and working into the witching hours of the night, accounted for 10% of votes each.
“In light of Halloween approaching, which ‘workplace horror’ is most likely to prompt you to look for another job?”
“Even the happiest workers can dislike an aspect of their workplace,” said Mary Ellen Slayter, Career Advice Expert for Monster.com. “It’s sensible to keep track of what disturbs you at work, so long as you address your grievances productively. Complaints should be specific and prioritized, not vague and idle. If something troubles you on a regular basis, don’t just think to yourself ‘I hate when this happens’ and then ignore the issue until it upsets you again.”
Slayter advises, “Consider the details of your problem and take notice of important factors: frequency, associated people or tasks, and cost to productivity should be assessed when planning a course of action. Be honest with yourself in your assessment; know the difference between ‘want’ and ‘need’, and be realistic about what changes are viable in your work environment. If you find yourself needing changes but unable to make them, it’s possible your workplace itself is what needs changing.”
