ATLANTA--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Logility Inc., a leading supplier of collaborative solutions to optimize the supply chain, recently collaborated with industry publication Consumer Goods Technology to determine the state of Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) in the consumer goods industry. (Download the full report, Sales and Operations Planning, Adoption Soars as Benefits are Realized.) The report discusses the findings from research conducted in August 2013 and compares these results with the same survey conducted in August 2011.
“S&OP improvement initiatives are clearly a priority for consumer goods companies and often the first step of major supply chain transformation initiatives”
The research shows 80 percent of the companies surveyed have a formal S&OP process in place. To support this more than 50 percent revealed they rely on spreadsheets while another 26% stated they either utilize a homegrown solution or their ERP system. Logility believes these approaches could be leading causes why more than 70 percent said they are unable to execute on their S&OP vision.
“S&OP improvement initiatives are clearly a priority for consumer goods companies and often the first step of major supply chain transformation initiatives,” said Kara Romanow, executive editor, Consumer Goods Technology. “This year we were able to compare our results with the same survey from 2011 and we found S&OP adoption is on the rise for companies of all sizes citing a better return on net assets and managing growing complexity as the two key drivers.”
Logility helps companies move away from disparate systems to provide a single, comprehensive view of the end-to-end supply chain and Sales and Operations Planning. Companies who have turned to Logility to support their formal S&OP processes have realized tremendous results including: reduced the manual effort to support their S&OP process by 90 percent, reduced the forecast error rate 50 percent and increased inventory turns 30 percent.
Global manufacturing, quickly changing consumer demand and rising competitive pressures create a complex supply chain environment for consumer goods companies. To stay ahead of these shifting conditions companies need to implement the right combination of people, process and technology. Logility helps organizations develop the right processes in support of the right supply chain solutions. This powerful combination enables you to account for supply and demand variability, harness market opportunities, optimize strategic and tactical inventory investments, and quickly make decisions that boost profitability.
“A successful S&OP process has been called today's single most important factor for managing risk and maintaining profitability,” said Mike Edenfield, president and CEO, Logility. “This latest research shows consumer goods companies are actively engaged and working toward a more collaborative S&OP process. To support their efforts, Logility remains focused on delivering the innovative supply chain solutions that will help drive better decision-making, streamline supply and demand planning, and quickly and easily compare multiple business scenarios.”
