A focus on immediate impact and educational leadership
“Capella’s online EdD programs are designed to deliver skills and knowledge that can be immediately applied on the job, so our learners can start making a greater impact right away,” said Feranda Williamson, EdD, dean of Capella’s School of Education. “By 2020, the number of P–12 positions in education administration is projected to grow by 10 percent, while the growth rate in higher education administration is projected at 19 percent. To meet this growing need, our EdD program includes courses specifically dedicated to leadership, in addition to courses focused on the student’s chosen area of study, such as our new specializations in Adult Education, and Curriculum and Instruction.”
The two new specializations share core courses that address foundational educational leadership skills, including systems thinking; change management; legal, regulatory, and ethical considerations; and data-informed decision making. In addition, the Adult Education specialization includes courses on leadership and managerial issues in an adult learning setting; program planning and evaluation; adult development stages; and issues and trends in the field. The Curriculum and Instruction specialization offers courses on such topics as supervision and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment programs; innovative instruction models; curriculum mapping; and the use of technology as a tool in curricular development and assessment. Both specializations also feature an applied research project that contributes to the solution of a recognized problem in the field.
Capella’s post-baccalaureate offerings in the field of education includes nearly three dozen PhD, EdD, EdS, master’s and certificate programs and specializations, including the two new EdD specializations in Adult Education, and Curriculum and Instruction, and existing EdD specializations in Educational Leadership and Management, and Reading and Literacy.
