CHICAGO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--For major-metro regions in Pennsylvania, including Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA-NJ; Harrisburg-Carlisle, PA; Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD; Pittsburgh, PA; Reading, PA; Scranton-Wilkes-Barre, PA; and York-Hanover, PA, the BidClerk Construction Index™ (BCI™) reported that overall construction that was actively bidding increased 42% compared to one year ago. Year-over-year, private construction activity decreased (-4.4%), but public construction jumped up 63.1%. Total contract value for all construction projects reported on BidClerk was $3.7 billion in the 3rd quarter of 2013, down from $4.3 billion reported by the BCI in the 2nd quarter of 2013. In a year-over-year analysis for the Philadelphia region, combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding increased 28.2% in the 3rd quarter of 2013, compared to a 7.9% increase reported for the 3rd quarter of 2012. The total value of all Philadelphia projects reported on BidClerk that bid in the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $1.5 billion, compared to $1.5 billion reported by the BCI for the 2nd quarter of 2013.
In a year-over-year analysis, BCI’s 3rd quarter 2013 report showed that combined public and private construction projects that were actively bidding in the Pittsburgh region increased 88.9% compared to a 164.8% increase reported last quarter. The total value of all the Pittsburg projects reported on BidClerk that bid in the 3rd quarter of 2013 was $1.2 billion compared to $900 reported in the 2nd quarter of 2013, reflecting seasonal trends.
