BEVERLY HILLS, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Three-time UFC Champion Rich Franklin knows the importance of staying in shape, especially when preparing for an upcoming fight. But even outside the octagon, the Cincinnati native leads a healthy lifestyle and today announces the November 1st launch of Ze/Lin, an organic juice bar & café, he co-founded with friend and businessman Billy Zebe.
“we also want to make an impact on communities where nutritional education is needed.”
A nutritionally and environmentally conscious company, Ze/Lin will feature raw, juice blends, acai bowls and a variety of pure, baked goods. The core philosophy behind Ze/Lin is Made With Respect and embodies all aspects of the company. From the produce and ingredients used to the eco-sustainable building materials sourced, Ze/Lin is about having regard for one’s body AND the earth.
Zebe (Ze) and Franklin (Lin) have committed to using 100% organic, non-GMO ingredients and will purchase as much locally-grown produce as possible. The juice menu offers a variety of options including cold press (preserves the nutrients the longest), pre-set recipes and build-your-own. Each type of juice addresses a certain aspect of health and when mixed together come in a variety of flavors based on ingredients. Some help to hydrate, others to lower cholesterol, and many are packed with super foods.
Ze/Lin’s acai bowls feature the popular super food, Acai berry. When combined with frozen fruit, the mixture is similar to a sorbet. Add a little granola, coconut flakes and drizzle of honey…the end result, an antioxidant filled and nutrient rich ‘healthy dessert.’ Ze/Lin’s muffins, cookies and cupcakes and are made with unrefined sugars and unbleached flours. They contain no artificial colors, flavors or sweeteners and come in gluten free and vegan options.
“While we want to attract customers who are conscious of the quality of food they consume,” explains Franklin, “we also want to make an impact on communities where nutritional education is needed.”
The success of Ze/Lin is personal on many levels for Zebe and Franklin. Both have a history of heart disease in their families. Franklin, whose father passed of a massive heart attack at age 56, grew up with a typical Midwestern diet of biscuits and gravy for breakfast. Thanks to an interest in gaining muscle during his senior year of high school, Franklin became focused on health, longevity and understanding the body’s need for micro and macro nutrients. Now, as a professional athlete in mixed martial arts for the past 14 years, Franklin has made nutrition the center of his performance and recovery before and after each competition.
Zebe, whose father was an All-American college swimmer yet suffered the first of three heart attacks at 39, witnessed the effects of poor nutrition first hand. He chose to take a proactive rather than reactive approach and adopted a healthy lifestyle at a very early age. Zebe, who now travels weekly, makes healthy living a priority no matter what city he’s in.
“We want people to know that living a healthy lifestyle is less about what you do in the gym and more about what you put in your body,” adds Zebe. “What you eat in private will show up in public.”
Ze/Lin is committed to providing nutritional education for the public through its products, recipes and business practices. In addition, Zebe and Franklin will partner with Sunburst Youth Challenge Academy to offer mentoring and job opportunities to “at risk” youth who have graduated from the program. Zebe and Franklin will continuously look for ways to educate and give back to the community through Ze/Lin. We ARE living healthy and we want to help others to do the same.
Ze/Lin’s hours are Monday – Saturday from 6:59am to 7:01pm (our commitment to the customer to open earlier than the hour and stay late) and closed on Sundays to rest. For more information, visit www.myzelin.com.
