LAKEWOOD, Colo.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Colorado-based Multispecialty Physician Partners (MPP), a Renal Ventures Management company, has entered into a joint venture partnership with Rheumatology Associates of Dallas to operate six infusion centers around the Dallas Metroplex. MPP will be responsible for the operations, management and marketing of the six outpatient facilities that provide intravenous and injectable drug infusion therapy to 1,000 area patients with a range of health conditions.
“This is an exciting new venture for us”
Utilization of specialty prescription drugs — such as infusion drugs used to treat chronic, complex diseases including osteoporosis, multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis — is on the rise. Spending on specialty prescription drugs is projected to increase 67 percent by the end of 2015, according to an Express Scripts report, and these drugs are expected to account for 50 percent of all drug costs by 2018.
Central to MPP’s mission to meet the growing demand for infusion drugs is also to provide an unparalleled patient experience, quality and cost-effectiveness. MPP President and CEO Greg Meadows said the centers intentionally strive to provide a very different atmosphere from a hospital, placing an emphasis on convenience, a non-infectious environment and a comfortable place to receive infusions in which patients can work, socialize and relax. This distinction is important for patients managing chronic diseases who spend lots of time in an infusion center.
“These facilities will offer convenient hours, on-time appointments, no waiting times and amenities such as heated chairs, WiFi access and personal, high-definition flat-screen televisions,” he said. “The patient experience will be unlike anything else in the area.”
Stanley Cohen, M.D., of Rheumatology Associates, a board-certified physician in rheumatology and internal medicine, will remain as the group leader of the six centers, supervising other physicians, nurses and clinical staff.
“We are proud to join forces with MPP,” said Cohen. “The joint venture will allow us the flexibility to provide exceptional quality services and a better value and clinical atmosphere than other providers.”
Infused drugs require special handling, distribution and administration. Professionally supervised infusion therapy at an MPP center typically costs much less than the equivalent treatment at a hospital or medical center.
“This is an exciting new venture for us,” said Daniel T. May, Chief Financial Officer of Renal Ventures Management, the parent company of MPP. “We are thrilled to be expanding our infusion center footprint across the United States.”
In addition to the six new infusion centers around the Dallas-Fort Worth area, MPP operates the Infusion Center of Denver. Learn more about center amenities and treatments by visiting rvinfusionpartners.com.
