--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Allied Pilots Association:
WHO: The Allied Pilots Association (APA) representing the 10,000 pilots who fly for American Airlines.
WHAT: In an open letter in today’s Tampa Bay Times, APA urged Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to reconsider her opposition to the pending American Airlines-US Airways merger. The open letter notes that when Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott withdrew Texas from the anti-merger lawsuit, he stated that the new American Airlines “will preserve competition in the marketplace.” Click here to view the letter.
WHEN: Monday, Oct. 28, 2013.
WHERE: Tampa Bay Times.
WHY: Among the merger’s many benefits, it would provide an important competitive counter-balance to Delta and United, which have both grown larger through recent mergers. With the merger, American Airlines would exit Chapter 11 restructuring on an equal footing with those carriers. Also, the merger would provide greater career security for the 100,000 hard-working men and women of American Airlines and US Airways.
