Huge potential life savings
Today's saline IV bags are more than 99-percent water. They're expensive to ship, have a short shelf life, and are prone to leakage.
Fosmo Med believes it has a better solution. The company’s Maji product revolutionizes the logistics of IV bags by shipping them without water. Once onsite, Forward Osmosis technology converts dirty water to a sterile solution without requiring any power.
A one-liter Maji bag weighs about 3 ounces, compared to a traditional saline IV bag that weighs about 2.3 pounds, or a little less than 38 ounces.
“Maji will enable many more IV bags to be shipped for the same cost, stored safely and transported to remote sites,” says Park. “The potential life savings could be in the millions annually.”
Philips employees across North America are voting now for the $60,000 top prize winner in the annual competition.
