WASHINGTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) has expanded its Curriculum Resource Center (ADEA CRC) offerings to include a module on oral health care for older adults. The ADEA CRC, made possible by an unrestricted educational grant from the Colgate-Palmolive Company, provides resources to accommodate dental educators’ changing needs around curriculum development in a flexible, reproducible and scalable format.
“Colgate-Palmolive Company is pleased to extend our commitment to ADEA and this suite of high-quality learning materials supporting teaching and learning in dental education”
ADEA developed the latest module to equip faculty with materials to help the next generation of dentists fully grasp the unique and complex issues associated with older patients. Oral disease treatment, long-term management and prevention are important for maintaining not only older adults’ oral-cavity health but also their overall health and well-being.
“Oral health is a critical, but often overlooked, aspect of an older adult’s general health,” says Richard W. Valachovic, D.M.D., M.P.H., ADEA President and CEO. “ADEA offers its gratitude both to leading experts in this discipline for helping develop this essential curriculum and to the Colgate-Palmolive Company for their invaluable support of this important endeavor.”
The Oral Health Care for Older Adults module—the sixth to be added to the ADEA CRC Web portal since its inception—provides comprehensive, interactive and transferable teaching resources for dental educators. The portal already includes modules covering dental plaque biofilm, erosion, dentin hypersensitivity, periodontal diseases and their relationship with overall health, and gingival diseases. Each module, which benefits from ADEA CRC Advisory Board recognition, contains an overview, an educational objective, key terms and concepts, a reference library, curriculum placement suggestions, case studies and review handouts.
“Colgate-Palmolive Company is pleased to extend our commitment to ADEA and this suite of high-quality learning materials supporting teaching and learning in dental education,” says Barbara Shearer, B.D.S., M.D.S., Ph.D., Director of Scientific Affairs at the Colgate-Palmolive Company.
Available at no cost to dental educators who are ADEA members, ADEA CRC’s collection of learning materials can easily be incorporated into faculty-developed courses. The Oral Health Care for Older Adults module and additional resources can be accessed at www.adea.org/crc.
