BEDFORD, N.H.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Sojourn Partners has teamed up with College for America at Southern New Hampshire University (CfA at SNHU) to develop and implement coaching competencies for its Associates in General Studies.
“Coaching is one of the critical tools to success when combined targeted and timely Reviewer feedback”
SNHU created the College for America, a self-paced online program that helps students earn an associate’s degree at a cost of $2,500 per year. In creating this revolutionary program, SNHU "unbundled” the traditional instructor role into three roles: Reviewers (evaluate students’ projects), Curriculum Developers and Learning Coaches. Learning Coaches help students to develop the skills and mindsets they need to complete their degree.
To bring best practices from the Professional Coaching field into its learning model, CfA turned to Sojourn Partners for their expertise in Executive Coaching and team building. Sojourn’s coaches spent several months working with the College for America coaching team from SNHU as well as helping them develop a coaching model that was actionable, measurable and scalable. Yvonne Simon, Chief Learning Architect for CfA, developed the coaching success model knowing that connecting students to a non-judgmental learning partner and “safe space” could make all the difference. “Coaching is one of the critical tools to success when combined targeted and timely Reviewer feedback,” explains Simon.
The key to the coach-student relationship is meeting students where they are, helping them to develop confidence in their abilities and the learning process, as well as providing feedback that supports the student’s values and goals. “The College for America coaches will be able to develop each student’s vision for their path within the program and help to hold the accountability for the vision that has been set. Introducing students to these coaching tools as an integrated part of the program helps to adjust their perspective and move forward regardless of barriers or challenges.” says Heather Ramsey of Sojourn Partners.
