CHICAGO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) has selected Cigna (NYSE:CI) to administer the medical benefits plan and employee assistance program (EAP) for CTA employees and their family members, beginning January 1, 2014. Approximately 24,000 people are enrolled in the CTA medical plan.
“We will welcome our new customers with 24/7/365 customer service and an array of health programs and consumer information tools to help them manage their health and better understand and take advantage of their health care plan and benefits.”
Under a multi-year contract, Cigna will provide administrative services, such as claims processing and health care professional network management for CTA, which will self-fund its medical plan. Cigna will also provide CTA employees and their enrolled family members with health coaching and with health management programs for people with chronic health care conditions. Through an integrated offering, Cigna's behavioral health benefits and EAP will also be available to employees.
“Cigna is proud to be selected as a partner of choice to the Chicago Transit Authority,” said Sue Podbielski, Cigna's Chicago-based president for Midwest markets. “We will welcome our new customers with 24/7/365 customer service and an array of health programs and consumer information tools to help them manage their health and better understand and take advantage of their health care plan and benefits.”
Podbielski said that Cigna is working with CTA to help employees learn about their new 2014 plan options. For example, Cigna representatives will be available in selected train stations and bus terminals to give employees easy access to information before and after work hours and during breaks. A dedicated pre-enrollment telephone help line is also being established to answer employee questions about benefits.
CTA employees will have in-network access to a broad network of area doctors, hospitals and other health care professionals and facilities. Among the tools that will be available to employees is Cigna's nationally-recognized online cost and quality information tool that provides individuals with real-time information, specific to their plan, about the quality and the actual costs of health care. It is just one in a growing suite of digital engagement tools that Cigna provides to its customers.
The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) operates the nation’s second largest public transportation system. On an average weekday, 1.7 million rides are taken on CTA. The CTA is a regional transit system that serves 35 suburbs, in addition to the City of Chicago, and provides 82 percent of the public transit trips in the Chicago metropolitan area.
