CHAPEL HILL, N.C.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Bond-trading broker dealer, Carolina Capital Markets (CCM) is pleased to announce that it is pledging 5% of trading commission profits to hire and train veterans. The company, after receiving its “veteran-owned” certification, granted to them by the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, financially commits itself to providing opportunities for veterans wishing to enter the institutional fixed income marketplace.
“Being on Wall Street, in an institutional capacity, is a great opportunity to have a very successful and rewarding career. From being a Captain in the Marine Corps to my 39 years in the bond business, a fundamental key to success is training”
Tom Shugrue, former Marine Corps Captain who served a tour of duty in Vietnam, has been running CCM for nearly 15 years. After successfully training scores of individuals in the institutional bond business, Shugrue is turning his focus towards duplicating those successes for veterans. “While we are honored to have received the designation of ‘Veteran-Owned’, I view it as a responsibility to assist my fellow veterans,” says Shugrue. “Being on Wall Street, in an institutional capacity, is a great opportunity to have a very successful and rewarding career. From being a Captain in the Marine Corps to my 39 years in the bond business, a fundamental key to success is training,” he says.
Shugrue has enlisted the help of a fellow Marine, Vietnam veteran, Ralph Markwood. Markwood is a purple heart recipient who was wounded three different times. His third wound resulted in the loss of his right hand. Despite his loss, Markwood has had a very successful career as the owner of a construction company where he has been the head carpenter. Mr. Markwood's ability to overcome the trauma he has suffered as a wounded warrior in Vietnam makes him a role model for our present wounded warriors and veterans.
