MONTVALE, N.J.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--IMA® (Institute of Management Accountants), one of the largest and most respected associations focused exclusively on the management accounting profession, has named Gary Cokins, CPIM, its new Executive-in-Residence. As a thought leader in enterprise performance management (EPM), business analytics and advanced cost management, Cokins will work with IMA on a variety of thought leadership initiatives, including the development of research reports, articles and learning webinars as well as participation in business development activities.

A longtime member of IMA, Cokins previously served on IMA’s Research Foundation and was most recently recognized with the organization’s inaugural Distinguished Member Award in June.

Cokins’ career spans 40 years as an internationally recognized expert, speaker and author in performance improvement systems, analytics and advanced cost management. Cokins, who earned a B.S. in industrial engineering from Cornell University in 1971 and an MBA from Northwestern University in 1974, began his career as a financial controller. He then entered the management consulting field with Deloitte Consulting in 1981. Later he worked with KPMG, where he was trained on activity-based costing (ABC) by Harvard Business School Professors Robert S. Kaplan and Robin Cooper. While at KPMG, he worked with Dr. David Norton on research that led to the development of the Balanced Scorecard.
In 1996, Cokins joined ABC Technologies, which was acquired in 2002 by SAS, a leading provider of EPM and business analytics software. Cokins served as principal consultant at SAS until 2012. He is currently founder and president of the consulting firm Analytics-Based Performance Management LLC.
