FRAMINGHAM, Mass.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--IDC Manufacturing Insights today launched a new Connected Vehicle survey to gauge consumer preferences in vehicle connectivity, safety, and privacy and to shed light on gaps in current development efforts.
According to Sheila Brennan, Connected Vehicle Strategies Program Manager at IDC Manufacturing Insights, "Since the introduction of mobile phones, distracted driving has caused tens of thousands of fatalities and billions in damages. But the reality is, future consumers view driving as a distraction to their connected life, and most Millennials are more interested in consumer electronics than purchasing cars. Therefore, automakers must respond to these trends and seamlessly integrate these technologies into the vehicle, yet, they are challenged to appeal to baby boomers that have the bulk of buying power, but may be less tech savvy."
New vehicle technologies will allow vehicles to wirelessly communicate with each other, the road, infrastructure, the Internet, and smart mobile devices. These new capabilities should improve driver safety, convenience, costs, and environmental impact. However, there are many challenges facing key stakeholders. According to a recent blog from Ms. Brennan, Connected Vehicles - Overcoming Barriers, it is critical for stakeholders to understand the barriers they are faced with, and work on creating viable solutions.
Developed by IDC with input from numerous key industry stakeholders, the survey will be released to a consumer panel of 1000, 18+ drivers that are also smartphone users.
