(NASDAQ: NUAN) today announced that Summit Health, headquartered in Chambersburg, Pa., has deployed Clintegrity 360™ │ Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) as well as Clintegrity 360 │ Clinical Document Improvement (CDI) with specialized physician education as part of an ICD-10 readiness strategy that focuses on improved clinical accuracy of documentation from the start. Summit Health is using Nuance’s broad approach to ICD-10 readiness across both its inpatient and outpatient settings, leveraging technology to deliver efficiencies today, while identifying gaps in documentation accuracy and training staff from clinicians to coders on tips and tools they need to be adequately trained before the October 2014 deadline.

Summit Health, ranked among the top 20 percent of best-performing health systems in the country, is building a solid foundation for clinical accuracy at Summit Health’s Chambersburg and Waynesboro facilities. Summit is using Nuance as its main source for ICD-10 training of all clinical and non-clinical staff using the Nuance educational platform to ensure that all Summit personnel, such as HIM coding, billing and general operational staff, are prepared.
Nuance’s powerful tools can assess individual coder competency, pinpoint areas individuals need to work on the most, and then assign specific lessons to prepare them for ICD-10 in the short months before the regulation takes effect. Additionally, Summit is relying on Nuance’s specialized physician education to prepare all medical staff working in its two hospitals and 28 physician practices for new charting requirements of ICD-10.

Summit Health’s Clinical Documentation Transformation
- HIM and clinical documentation specialist professionals at Chambersburg Hospital and Waynesboro Hospital have worked collaboratively on compliance and clinical integrity to realize significant improvements. Waynesboro has achieved a 12 percent case mix correction while Chambersburg, the larger facility, has realized an 8 percent case mix correction since implementing the CDI program.
- Nuance’s CAC supports both ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding and simplifies the process for coders by bringing together relevant documentation and reference material at their fingertips.
- Summit inpatient coders are showing productivity gains of up to 35 percent using Nuance’s CAC. Both experienced and novice coders are seeing significant productivity enhancements.
- Nuance CDI experts are auditing documentation of physicians to help them be more specific and detailed for ICD-9 and in preparation for ICD-10.
- Physicians also use Nuance Dragon Medical 360 │ Network Edition to dictate patient charts directly into the Meditech electronic health record in real-time generating more complete documentation while simultaneously improving physician productivity.
