ATLANTA--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Health professionals face increased challenges in reaching out to and engaging vulnerable populations, including dual eligibles and new Medicaid mothers, according to Rhonda Willingham, executive vice president at Alere Health, a leading provider of health management solutions. Willingham will provide insights during the Medicaid Health Plans of America 2013 conference October 21-22 at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Md. She will speak at 1:30 p.m. on October 21.
“The future of managing this vulnerable population will require this new integrated approach.”
In her presentation, “Enabling Connected Health to Meet the Needs of Vulnerable Populations at the State Level,” Willingham will discuss how connected health strategies can help health plans compete and grow effectively at the state level under the Affordable Care Act, by helping to improve the patient experience as well as healthcare quality. The Kaiser Foundation reports in the 2012 U.S. Census Bureau statistics that more than 47 million Americans remain uninsured.
“At Alere, we have developed what we refer to as a ‘connected health’ approach that includes the convergence of advanced technologies, at-home monitoring devices and care management services as a way to transform how healthcare is delivered and monitored,” says Willingham, who has more than 25 years of health services experience. “The future of managing this vulnerable population will require this new integrated approach.”
“Through this convergence, we can ensure the best patient experience for newly vulnerable populations as well as traditional ones defined as the disadvantaged, medically underserved, poverty stricken and distressed,” she adds.
Willingham is a Think Tank member of the Health Enhancement Research Organization (HERO), where she serves as co-chair of both the HERO Research Advisory Group and the HERO Incentives Committee.
Medicaid Health Plans of America is the leading national organization solely dedicated to representing health plans participating in Medicaid managed care, and its forums support the development of effective policy solutions to promote and enhance the delivery of quality healthcare.
