COLUMBUS, Ohio--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--As Ohio’s bioscience industry continues to develop and deepen in key areas – economic impact, research expertise, and global reach – it’s only natural that Ohio’s annual bioscience conference centers on the engine driving the state’s bioscience industry: growth.
“Attendees and sponsors tell us that the Annual Conference provides the rare opportunity to personally share who we are - as individuals, organizations, and a statewide industry – and how we can help each other achieve our goals”
To keep that engine roaring, bioscience professionals representing every corner of the state and virtually all sectors, specialties and functions will convene in Dublin, OH on November 4th and 5th for the 2013 BioOhio Annual Conference. The event is Ohio’s central event for clinical, research, commercial, professional, and funding professionals to chart the state of “Bio in Ohio” - and to chart their own role in an expanding future.
In numerous industry studies, Ohio’s bioscience economy is noted as one of the nation’s strongest. However, John Lewis, BioOhio’s President and CEO, is determined to continue the growth the organization has enjoyed since its inception over 25 years ago. Now more than ever, Lewis sees events such as the Annual Conference as critical to growing Ohio’s bioscience industry, including BioOhio member organizations and professionals.
“Especially in an advanced, highly technical industry such as ours, I think many of us believed that sophisticated telecommunications networks would eventually diminish or eliminate the need to meet in person,” said Lewis. If anything, however, Lewis believes the flood of electronic communications has made face-to-face meetings even more critical to cut through the clutter – and make meaningful, more lasting impact.
“Attendees and sponsors tell us that the Annual Conference provides the rare opportunity to personally share who we are - as individuals, organizations, and a statewide industry – and how we can help each other achieve our goals,” Lewis added.
Ironically, many of those goals must address growth of a negative sort. As an aging population in the US confronts healthcare costs that soon will grow to $3 trillion and 20 percent of Gross Domestic Product, clearly an aggressive plan is needed.
Aaron Pitts is Managing Director of Biohealth, Food Processing and Agribusiness for JobsOhio, a sponsor of the event. Pitts believes that growth in healthcare spending can only be tamed by an aggressive growth in strategies to tackle the problem. “We must embrace innovation to more effectively deliver care today while funding research that addresses tomorrow’s most vexing human health challenges,” said Pitts.
“Ohio is blessed to be home to some of the world’s leading healthcare practitioners, scientists, entrepreneurs and enterprises. Their creativity, combined with innovative private-public partnerships, gives Ohio the opportunity to grow a bright future for all of us.”
The principal of another event sponsor, Ice Miller LLP, shares Pitts’ sentiment. “Ice Miller LLP enthusiastically supports BioOhio’s work to highlight the most current issues, trends and initiatives in life sciences and technology,” said Susan Rector, a Partner of the Columbus-based firm.
“When BioOhio brings together leading bioscience professionals, all of us benefit from the sharing of ideas and strategies that otherwise might stay locked inside one person or one organization. Ice Miller could not be more pleased to support this initiative to grow a key element of the technology economy of Ohio.”
The Annual Conference agenda is a full one.
