NEW YORK--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Liev Schreiber, star of the Showtime series Ray Donovan, narrates two new films set to premiere at the Jewish Partisan Educational Foundation’s (JPEF) 2013 Tribute Dinner honoring the Bielski brothers and the partisans of the Bielski Brigade.
“At a time when the world, especially the Jewish world, needs to show great courage in the face of grave threats and unmitigated evil, the lesson of the Bielski Brothers is more relevant than ever”
Schreiber, who portrayed Zus Bielski in the motion picture Defiance, also starring Daniel Craig, is an active supporter of JPEF’s mission of educating young people worldwide about the heroic resistance of Jewish partisans during World War II. The Bielski brothers, led by Commander Tuvia Bielski, organized the largest Jewish resistance unit during World War II, saving over 1,200 Jews. Today, there are more than 15,000 descendants of the Bielski Brigade, many of whom will be in attendance, including the youngest Bielski brother, Aron Bell.
A highlight of the evening includes a keynote presentation by Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz and the Honorable Irwin Cotler, both distinguished defenders of human rights worldwide and admirers of Tuvia Bielski and the Jewish partisans.
Dershowitz said, “At a time when the world, especially the Jewish world, needs to show great courage in the face of grave threats and unmitigated evil, the lesson of the Bielski Brothers is more relevant than ever” for this event.
Founded in 2000, JPEF is dedicated to the development and distribution of effective resource materials about the Jewish partisans, bringing the celebration of heroic resistance during World War II to educational and cultural settings. JPEF is the only organization solely focused on the Jewish partisans, and today more than 7,200 educators use its innovative curriculum, short films and interactive on-line resources to bring the partisan’s history and life lessons to more than 1,000,000 teens worldwide. JPEF’s educational materials empower young people to stand up to oppression, discrimination, and antisemitism by bringing the inspiring legacy of the Jewish partisans to students in the 21st century.
Tickets for the evening can be purchased online at www.jewishpartisans.org/bielskitribute. All proceeds from ticket sales and donations go towards developing and implementing JPEF’s programs. Cocktails will start at 6 p.m., followed by a glatt kosher dinner and a special program.
