SAN FRANCISCO--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--BRS Media Inc., a diverse and growing media e-commerce firm that helps traditional and interactive media companies build and brand on the power of the Web, today announced that it has re-launched Radio Forward @ http://RadioForward.com, as ICANN, a not-for-profit entity that oversees the Internet, is in the process of considering a request to re-categorize the Open Radio Industry to a Restricted and Regulated Community.
“The very future of RADIO online is at stake. A statement you don’t hear often or truly believe, unfortunately in this case is very real and valid”
ICANN (The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) will soon evaluate the Community Priority Evaluation (CPE) of Application ID: 1-1083-39123, that would in essence regulate and limit the Assigned Name Space RADIO to restricted online use. This attempt to restrain and re-define RADIO online, will create material harm to a significant portion of the Radio Industry by preventing legitimate ‘radio’ members, within the Industry, from using RADIO in the domain space.
“The very future of RADIO online is at stake. A statement you don’t hear often or truly believe, unfortunately in this case is very real and valid,” remarked George T. Bundy, Chairman & CEO of BRS Media Inc. “History does repeat itself, the attack to limit or restrict RADIO Online is no different than, and draws many parallels to, digital copyright issues in the 90’s. Many in the Industry, at that time, did not take a pro-active approach, and 15 years later are still struggling to balance digital copyright and streaming royalty issues. The Radio Industry must take a stance now to preserve an open, all-inclusive and innovative RADIO domain space. Any licensed Radio Broadcasters, Companies serving Radio (Industry), Web radios, Licensed Amateur Radio and Clubs, and Radio Professionals should be extremely concerned regarding the unwarranted re-classification of the RADIO namespace.”
If the request to re-define Radio as a restricted community succeeds, RADIO in the namespace will be regulated by a Geneva based company called CORE, that has no ties to the Radio Industry. This vague Internet company, which completely lacks the understanding of the Radio Industry, will play a key role called “compliance agents” meaning they will monitor and police the content within the RADIO namespace.
As part of a diverse Industry, if this is concerning, action should be taken now. Go to http://RadioForward.com for more details, to add Comments, and to convey your thoughts to ICANN.
