BURBANK, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--NBC4 Southern California launched the ‘I Am a Volunteer’ campaign, a station initiative designed to encourage volunteerism by connecting viewers to community-based organizations and raising awareness of the importance and need for reliable volunteers.
“NBC4 witnesses first-hand the great impact volunteers have on sustaining social services needed in the community”
The multi-platform campaign includes a series of public service announcements, featuring NBC4 anchors, reporters and community leaders speaking in support of building a greater understanding of the value of giving back to their communities, and an on-air community calendar on NBC4’s mid-day newscast every Thursday and Friday. The calendar highlights upcoming volunteer opportunities and directs viewers to the station’s ‘I Am a Volunteer’ web page, where they can connect to dozens of non-profit organizations and explore hundreds of ways to get involved in local community efforts.
“NBC4 witnesses first-hand the great impact volunteers have on sustaining social services needed in the community,” said Terri Hernandez Rosales, vice president of community affairs. “I Am a Volunteer was created to bring more attention to the causes needing the most support, while connecting people to a common purpose of giving back to the communities in which they live or work.”
“Volunteers are the lifeline of our organization and are vital for fulfilling our mission of helping underprivileged children have a better life and get a good education,” said Katy Garretson, executive director of the I Have a Dream Foundation - Los Angeles. “I Am a Volunteer recognizes that those who volunteer are the true heroes in our shared community, and shows how rewarding it is to give back.”
The first ‘I Am a Volunteer’ PSA, featuring NBC4 weathercaster Fritz Coleman, began airing on the station yesterday. The 30-second spot includes Coleman sharing a personal volunteer experience and its impact on the community. Over the next several weeks NBC4 will roll out more PSAs featuring additional NBC4 talent, including Sports Anchor and Reporter Mario Solis, and Meteorologist Elita Loresca, along with long-standing volunteers with the American Red Cross, CASA, 826LA, and the I Have a Dream Foundation.
