NEW YORK--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Dancing Dreams, New York’s largest dance troupe that gives children with physical and medical disabilities the chance to dance, is taking to Kickstarter for the first time to fund its annual dance “extravaganza.”
“Operation Dancing Feet on Kickstarter will give us the leg up we need to find the right venue, design and build the sets and get the costumes and props we need”
The Kickstarter project called Operation Dancing Feet launches October 10th and runs through November 15. The spring 2014 performance will feature hundreds of dancers and their teen dance volunteer helpers. Dancing Dreams founder and executive director, Joann Ferrara has already chosen the performance theme, which is New York, New York.
“With dance classes now in Queens and Manhattan, we need double the resources to fund the annual performance. That means more sets, more costumes and even a Manhattan performance venue,” said Ferrara. “Operation Dancing Feet on Kickstarter will give us the leg up we need to find the right venue, design and build the sets and get the costumes and props we need,” Ferrara added.
Kicking off the project is 14-year old Veronica Siaba, who has been with the program since 2002. Asked why Dancing Dreams is important to her, Veronica answers without missing a beat, “Dancing gives me the confidence and freedom I always wanted and the self-assurance that I don’t have to be afraid of who I am.”
