MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--More than 2,500 schools have already registered to plan events during National School Choice Week 2014 (January 26 to February 1, 2014), NSCW leaders announced today.
“We are planning a whole week of events and want to open some of it up to the public, not just our school body”
These 2,500 schools, representing 1.1 million students in total, will hold independent events during National School Choice Week. With National School Choice Week 110 days away, participation continues to grow, with additional schools registering to participate every day.
“We are planning a whole week of events and want to open some of it up to the public, not just our school body,” said Dina Walton, business manager at Rocky Mountain Academy, a public charter school in Evergreen, Colorado that plans to participate in National School Choice Week 2014. “Parents in our community should know that they have multiple choices for the education of their kids and options for providing the best education possible.”
National School Choice Week is a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness campaign celebrating effective educational options for children. Participants in National School Choice Week believe that parents deserve more access to great educational environments for their children – including high-performing traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online academies and homeschooling.
"We like to highlight the great opportunity our kids have because of school choice," said Art Arpin, principal Connecticut IB Academy, a public magnet school in East Hartford, Connecticut. "Last year we held an all-school rally. We are still deciding what to do that's even bigger this year."
As more schools register, National School Choice Week is on track to have its highest participation numbers yet.
“National School Choice Week 2014 is set to be the nation’s largest-ever celebration of educational choice,” said Andrew Campanella, president of NSCW. “In addition to schools, hundreds of organizations and millions of individuals will also maximize the Week to celebrate the benefits of school choice.”
Last year, National School Choice Week partners held more than 3,600 events throughout the country. National School Choice Week is on track to break that record in 2014.
