COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Colorado Technical University (CTU) is honored to be recognized as a Military Friendly School® by Victory Media (formerly known as G.I. Jobs Magazine) for the fifth time.
“However, the true honor is serving those men and women who so bravely serve us.”
“Being recognized for our service to military personnel, veterans and their spouses is an honor. And, being recognized five times reflects our on-going commitment that began at the school’s inception,” stated Stefanie Brueggeman, manager of military relations for CTU. “However, the true honor is serving those men and women who so bravely serve us.”
Approximately one-third of our student population consists of active military, reservists, National Guard, veterans and their spouses. To best serve this population, CTU’s Department of Military Education has a team of specially trained advisors who are knowledgeable in areas that affect military students, such as voluntary education procedures, education benefits, military training transfer credit*, and CTU military friendly policies regarding military deployment while in school.
In addition to being a Post 9/11 G.I. Bill and Yellow Ribbon Program participant, CTU annually awards 25 Wounded Warrior Scholarships and 25 Wounded Warrior Spouse Scholarships to deserving recipients. The scholarship program was created in 2008, and it offers educational assistance to wounded service members and wounded veterans as they recover from their injuries and for their spouses as they prepare for new career opportunities. The 2014 scholarship recipients will be named in November.
“Our mission is to continually evaluate and address the needs of our military students to help them advance their military careers or assist with obtaining new skills for their re-entry into civilian life,” said Brueggeman. “It’s important to us to adapt and expand the services offered to this segment of our students. For example, CTU’s Student Veterans Association (SVA) chapter rolled out an online chapter this year. The first SVA chapter opened on the Denver campus, followed by one on the Colorado Springs campus.”
The 2014 Military Friendly Schools list honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace America’s military service members, veterans and spouses as students. The list was compiled from a survey of more than 10,000 schools nationwide approved for VA tuition funding. Schools were surveyed on the services and accommodations available to military students, such as providing special policies addressing the unique concerns of service members, offering programs especially in demand by military students, and having distance learning options
CTU gives military students flexibility and accessibility to higher education whether they are deployed or at home through its availability of online classes and support services. For more information please visit: http://www.coloradotech.edu/info-for/military.
