IRVINE, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Toshiba’s Cloud Services and Solutions, a part of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division, today announced the availability of Toshiba’s Virtual Desktop Service (VDS). A monthly hosted virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) service built on Toshiba-developed management software and storage technology as well as virtualization technology from industry leaders Citrix® Systems and VMware®. Purpose-built to meet the demands of today’s enterprise, Toshiba’s VDS moves desktop management to the cloud, drastically reducing the complexity, risk and cost of deploying on-premise virtualized desktop offerings.
“IT departments today are tested like never before to deliver more flexible technology solutions to employees and manage increasingly complex, compliance-driven infrastructures with fewer resources”
“IT departments today are tested like never before to deliver more flexible technology solutions to employees and manage increasingly complex, compliance-driven infrastructures with fewer resources,” said Scott Sims, vice president of Cloud Services and Solutions, Toshiba America Information Systems, Digital Products Division. “Our Virtual Desktop Service solves these critical problems by providing a tightly integrated virtual platform available from any supported device while ensuring data isolation and security, management control and global consistency as a fundamental part of the user experience.”
Solving For New Enterprise IT Realities
Today, enterprise IT decision-makers face an array of persistent and time-sensitive challenges, including data security, maintaining high performance and availability, and the need to increase the speed of applying updates and deploying desktops. In addition, IT faces increased pressure from employees for Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies and flexibility for diverse work environments.
“Demand for BYOD is so strong that businesses report widespread employee willingness to ignore, or even circumvent, policy and security protocols in order to use their personal and/or mobile devices for work purposes,” said Brett Waldman, research manager, Cloud and Virtualization System Software, IDC. “Cloud solutions like Toshiba’s VDS help address the access and security issues presented by BYOD.”
Toshiba’s VDS enables users to access their desktop from any Apple® iOS, MacOS, Windows, Linux or Android™ device meeting certain minimum operating system requirements via a secure gateway without requiring authentication on the corporate network.
Desktop Manager Software
Toshiba’s VDS includes Toshiba’s proprietary Desktop Manager Software. Desktop Manager provides IT Administrators and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) a single interface for managing all of their virtual desktops, whether based on Citrix XenDesktop® or VMware Horizon View™. MSPs will use Desktop Manager to provide desktop administration services in their customers’ implementation of Toshiba’s VDS environments, enhancing their efficiency.
Central Management Provides IT Control and Security
Toshiba’s VDS simplifies and mitigates challenges for IT departments looking to reduce complexity and effectively manage issues arising from an increased array of devices outside the traditional firewall, including:
- Central desktop management: provides an easy-to-use dashboard interface
- Data Isolation: maintains a distinction between business and personal data
- Data security: offers powerful identity and access management across all supported devices
- Control: enables corporate IT control over devices from a central location
Toshiba brings more than 50 years of technology innovation and more than three decades of personal computing leadership to the development of the Virtual Desktop Service. Hosted in state-of-the-art data centers, Toshiba’s VDS provides desktop management tools that make it easy for IT to manage both the system and its users while delivering optimized performance for knowledge workers. Toshiba’s VDS is built on Toshiba’s global cloud infrastructure, which provides a highly available platform with multiple local and remote backup options. Security for both data and the data centers conforms to internationally accredited security protocols.
Toshiba’s Virtual Desktop Service will be available in early Q4 with either Citrix XenDesktop or VMware Horizon View and can be configured with varying levels of memory, storage and backup capabilities.
