IRVINE, Calif.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Harry Markopolos, the former securities industry executive best known for blowing the whistle on Bernie Madoff, is slated to speak in Costa Mesa on Thursday, October 10th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hilton Hotel. The luncheon, titled, “Our Financial Industry & Fraud: What to Look For and How to Prevent It,” will be hosted by the Center for Wealth Management at The Paul Merage School of Business.
“Our Financial Industry & Fraud: What to Look For and How to Prevent It”
Markopolos is a powerful voice on ethical leadership and an expert on fraud. During the Merage School conference he will share lessons learned by capital markets due-diligence professionals, accountants, and regulators as a result of the mortgage backed securities fiasco and Bernie Madoff scandal. He will explore how the financial services industry failed during both scandals and how today’s financial executives can avoid some of the industry’s mistakes and prevent unnecessary losses.
Markopolos, who has left the securities industry to spend all of his time investigating fraud at Fortune 500 companies in the financial services and health care industries, will be available prior to his presentation to sign his book, “No One Would Listen.” The book details his experiences in trying to convince federal securities regulators that Bernie Madoff’s investment strategy was a fraud. Madoff, who was finally sentenced in 2009 for masterminding a massive Ponzi scheme, is estimated to have cost investors billions of dollars.
Our Financial Industry & Fraud is presented by Beacon Pointe Advisors. Other sponsors include Adams Financial Group of Wells Fargo Advisors, CFA Society, First American Financial Corporation, First Foundation Advisors, GenSpring, Lord Abbett & Company, LLC, and Pacific Alternative Asset Management Company (PAAMCO). Tickets are $75 and can be purchased at http://merage.uci.edu/go/fraud.
