TEANECK, N.J.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--CircuLite®, Inc. today announced that the SYNERGY® Circulatory Support System will be highlighted in four sessions at the 27th Annual European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (EACTS) Meeting, in Vienna, Austria, beginning October 5.
“Resources And Cost Valuation Of A Destination Therapy Ventricular Assist Device Programme”
At approximately the size and weight of a AA battery, the SYNERGY System is the world’s smallest implantable circulatory support pump, designed to be easily implanted via a minimally-invasive surgical procedure. SYNERGY enables early intervention and helps improve quality of life in ambulatory chronic heart failure patients. The system works in concert with the native heart, supplementing its function, rather than replacing it.
The “Transplant/Mechanical Assist” post-graduate course will feature a presentation by Bart Meyns, M.D., PhD, Professor and Chief of Cardiac Surgery at the University Hospitals Leuven, Belgium, entitled “Long Term Assist With LVAD In Elderly Patients” on Sunday, October 6, from 13:50 to 15:10 in Room F1. The presentation will review the use of a partial support system (the surgical SYNERGY System), as well as full support systems (LVADs), in frail ambulatory chronic heart failure patients.
As part of the “Left Ventricular Assist Devices II: Long Term Support” session being held Tuesday, October 8, from 10:15 to 11:45 in Room H, the surgical SYNERGY System will be featured in two presentations:
- In “First Experience With The SYNERGY Micro-pump In Patients With Severe Heart Failure In INTERMACS Levels 1-2: Does It Make Sense?”, data will be presented by Aron Popov, M.D. demonstrating that treatment of INTERMACS 1-2 patients with the SYNERGY System elicits similarly positive outcomes to treating INTERMACS 3-4 patients.
- In “Resources And Cost Valuation Of A Destination Therapy Ventricular Assist Device Programme,” to be presented by Alessandro Barbone, M.D., Division of Cardiac Surgery Instituto Clinico Humanitas Rozzano, Milano, Italy, both full support and partial support (SYNERGY System) will be evaluated.
Circulite will be demonstrating the SYNERGY System at EACTS at its booth #150.
About the SYNERGY® Circulatory Support System
The SYNERGY Circulatory Support System is a micro-blood pump that provides up to 4.25 liters of blood per minute and reduces the heart's workload, while improving blood flow to vital organs. The SYNERGY System draws blood from the left atrium via attachment to the subclavian artery, and the micro-pump is easily placed in a pacemaker-like pocket via a minimally invasive implantation. The system is intended to reduce the risks associated with more invasive implantation of long-term circulatory support and reduce rehospitalizations associated with heart failure symptoms.
CircuLite is developing disruptive solutions to improve the treatment of heart failure. The Company focuses on technology that works in conjunction with the heart to enhance clinical outcomes and improve quality of life. SYNERGY, which received CE Mark in 2012, features the smallest surgically-implanted blood pump for long-term use in ambulatory chronic heart failure patients not responding to optimal medical treatment. The company is developing a portfolio of minimally-invasive systems based on its proprietary micro-pump platform, including an interventional cardiology system, a right-heart system and a pediatric system that have not yet been submitted for FDA clearance.
