Individual meetings and discussions were held with Congressman Ed Whitfield, R-Ky., Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power; Congressman John Shimkus, R-Ill., Chairman of the House Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy; and Sean Babington, legislative assistant to Senator Michael F. Bennet, D-Colo., member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance. Meetings with officials from the U.S. Department of Energy, Housing and Urban Development, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Energy Information Administration were also conducted.

Among the topics discussed were the President’s Climate Action Plan, EPA’s ENERGY STAR® and WaterSense® programs, low-income housing policy, and the compliance challenges associated with the patchwork of different local benchmarking regulations springing up throughout the country and developing carbon emission executive actions and legislation. Also discussed was the SAVE Act, (attached to the Shaheen Portman energy bill) which is co-sponsored by Sen. Bennet and would allow lenders to give more favorable terms to purchasers of energy efficient homes and multifamily buildings.
