FAIRFIELD, Iowa--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. (Cambridge) today opened Ignite 2013, its national conference for Cambridge rep-advisors, with over 1,000 attendees and a new record level of participation by independent financial advisors from across the U.S. The invitation only event is underway in Scottsdale at the Westin Kierland.
“And, I have an equally passionate team of executives and associates dedicated to finding the solutions needed to preserve and protect independence for Cambridge as a broker-dealer so we, in turn, can enable Cambridge rep-advisors to survive and thrive as independent business owners and entrepreneurs.”
“My passion for serving the independent financial advisor remains as strong as ever,” said Eric Schwartz, Cambridge’s Chairman and CEO. “And, I have an equally passionate team of executives and associates dedicated to finding the solutions needed to preserve and protect independence for Cambridge as a broker-dealer so we, in turn, can enable Cambridge rep-advisors to survive and thrive as independent business owners and entrepreneurs.”
Over 20 college candidates from Arizona State University (ASU) were on hand for opening day. Their Ignite 2013 experience included breakfast and lunch sessions with Cambridge rep-advisors seeking financial career-minded interns and residents for roles within their independent firms throughout the country. As a new initiative led by Cambridge’s Practice Management division, this special face-to-face engagement between highly qualified college candidates and successful business owners is another facet of The Next Step™ program. The Next Step™ is integral to Cambridge’s strategy for bringing new talent into the financial services industry while helping Cambridge rep-advisors identify qualified staff and financial professionals as part of their long-term business planning for growth and succession.
“It is exciting to identify college talent interested in careers as financial advisors or financial management and match them with business owners of growing firms,” said Barry Schmidt, Cambridge’s Vice President of Practice Management. “Our counsel extends to both our client, the independent rep-advisor, and the up and coming college graduate as we help them both find the best fit from not only a talent perspective, but from a values and culture view to ensure mutual success for years to come.”
In addition to personal meetings with Cambridge rep-advisors, Schmidt and other Cambridge executives, the ASU college students also attended Schwartz’s CEO Welcome and the keynote session presented by Dr. David Kelly on pricing and the markets. Cambridge’s goal is to help the ASU students ‘launch their career at Ignite 2013’ by tapping into the knowledge of experienced rep-advisors, and by asking questions about their practices, how they got started, and what steps the students should take to be successful. Ignite 2013 is designed as their personal opportunity to establish relationships that may lead to their ‘next step’ for their career.
Schwartz welcomed the ASU students and noted, “As we encourage college students and career changers to seriously consider the noble profession of advice, it is important that refresh our perspective and commitment to excellence on a professional and personal level. We must mentor the next generation to go for it all and set their sights on success, values, and balance – or as I think of it, be Superman and Clark Kent.”
