NEW YORK--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--CarouCELL announced it is seeking American strategic partners to launch a small, single-use perfusion bioreactor for 3D cell growth.
“While traditional 3D cell cultures lack nutrient supply, ultimately making cell constructs necrotic, CarouCELL’s perfusion technology tackles the problem, using perfusion technology to ensure continuous media flow through the scaffold.”
A spinout of Aarhus University, CarouCELL, under the direction of CEO Lone Jager Lindquist, has successfully developed a bioreactor with several usage possibilities, including drug development, tissue engineering and cellular assays. CarouCELL previously received seed funding from Oestjysk Innovation A/S and now, in collaboration with the Trade Council at the Royal Danish Consulate General, seeks partners to bring their technology to the U.S. market.
Tests using human mesenchymal stem cells grown in CarouCELL’s bioreactor yielded quicker osteogenic differentiation and a more disperse cell distribution, compared to a standard static culture growing identical cells. Designed with user-friendliness, optimum conditions for in vivo cell growth, cheap operating and acquisition costs, and infection resilience, CarouCELL makes perfusion technology a routine and makes 3D cell culture accessible available to cell biologists, drug, developers, and biomedical researchers.
The compact, CarouCELL 3D bioreactor features a central chamber with eight outlet channels to peripheral cutouts with scaffolding sets. A central stirrer creates a unidirectional media flow that can even be regulated by the size and shape of the stirrer. The single-use bioreactor has a small footprint and thereby requires little incubator space and promises low-cost price points.
Senior Advisor to the Consulate General, Joseph Hernandez, said, “While traditional 3D cell cultures lack nutrient supply, ultimately making cell constructs necrotic, CarouCELL’s perfusion technology tackles the problem, using perfusion technology to ensure continuous media flow through the scaffold.”
CarouCELL’s perfusion bioreactor offers dynamic, advanced 3D cell culture technology in a compact, single-use reactor.
