“After nearly a decade of successful TouchStar fleet automation at Sentinel Transportation, we’re announcing a major upgrade to Sentinel’s enterprise mobility system”
“TouchStar has been our fleet automation vendor for over 8 years,” says John Defoor, CTP Regional Dispatch Manager for Sentinel Transportation LLC. During that extended period, TouchStar worked hard at providing the technical expertise, service support and a high-level understanding of Sentinel’s business needs. Along with the new system upgrades being installed for Sentinel, TouchStar remains fully committed to supplying the same personalized support they've provided for almost a decade.
Sentinel Transportation provides transportation and logistical services for Phillips 66 and the DuPont companies. It operates in all 48 contiguous states and Canada, hauling crude oil, chemicals and related petroleum products. Sentinel utilizes a wide variety of equipment including tankers, containers, vans, flatbeds and a large fleet of specialized service vehicles. Formed in 1996, Sentinel continues to be one of the top-performing private fleets in the bulk truck transportation industry. Safety and quality of service are the hallmarks of Sentinel Transportation. The TouchStar Eagle™ mobile computer with attached printer has served the mobility needs of Sentinel, providing years of reliable service, logging hundreds of thousands of delivery miles each year.
“We’re extremely excited about Phase-1 of the current upgrades from our original TouchStar fleet automation system to our ‘newest generation’ Mobility and Enterprise Software Solutions, CrudePac™, TS Schedule™ and TS FleetMarshal™,” says TouchStar General Manager, Shelby Ahmann. “We’ll soon be testing the new TouchStar system during the ‘pilot stage’ of Sentinel’s upgrade. We fully expect even stronger results and another decade or more of cost-saving operations. In Phase-2, starting in early 2014, the new system will be installed fleet-wide on Sentinel’s crude trucks,” concludes Ahmann.
The new hardware platform selected by Sentinel includes the ultra-rugged CN70 Intermec Mobile Computer which is ideal for the field-mobility applications required by Sentinel. The CN70’s many features include an integrated camera option, GPS, embedded accelerometer, and integrated Bluetooth. Its wireless communications and data capture capabilities deliver optimal worker productivity.
“We’ve very much enjoyed our long-term customer relationship with Sentinel Transportation,” says Peter Gibbs, CEO at TouchStar. “We’re delighted about their system upgrades being piloted soon. We feel confident they’ll gain significant new automation efficiencies in scheduling, dispatching, data capture, electronic ticketing and back-office accounting,” continues Gibbs. “Finally, the new system will, no doubt, generate an excellent return-on-investment for Sentinel…while helping secure their competitive future for years to come,” concludes Gibbs.
