ORLANDO, Fla.--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--Kony, Inc., the leading mobile and multi-channel application platform and packaged applications provider, announced today that leading health insurer Independence Blue Cross (IBC) has launched its first Windows 8 tablet application. The app was developed on Kony’s multi-channel platform and recently went “live” in the Windows 8 application store after an accelerated development process that took just over one month.
“Developing for a new architecture like Windows 8 often brings big challenges, but this process was relatively smooth and simple. Leveraging our existing code on the Kony platform made the process extremely efficient and helped us get it done in record time.”
IBC serves more than 7 million customers nationwide, and began working with Kony in 2012 to develop member-facing apps for Android and iOS smartphones. Recently, IBC and Kony began building a series of new apps for tablets, mobile web and other channels, leveraging the same code base used by IBC’s existing apps. The Windows 8 tablet app was completed in a little more than a month and was submitted to the Windows 8 application store. The app was quickly certified and is now available for download. This is the first app developed on the Kony platform to receive Windows 8 certification.
Kony’s new Windows 8 tablet app for IBC offers members a number of useful features, including electronic ID cards, a mobile provider finder, personal health records, account balances and multi-year claim history. Later this month, IBC will introduce similar capabilities for their mobile web channel, and this fall, the company will launch apps for iOS and Android tablets.
“Consumers and employees alike expect to be able to communicate and do business anywhere and everywhere, regardless of the device or channel,” said Sriram Ramanathan, Kony’s CTO. “Forward-thinking companies like IBC have recognized that mobile and multi-channel apps aren’t just an extension of existing processes – they are transforming the way we do business, presenting new opportunities to engage with members and customers, and create competitive advantage.”
“We are committed to being a leader in supporting new architectures such as Windows 8, so we can provide our members with the benefits of the latest technologies,” said Kenneth Russo, IBC’s Director for the Digital Engagement Center of Excellence (COE). “Developing for a new architecture like Windows 8 often brings big challenges, but this process was relatively smooth and simple. Leveraging our existing code on the Kony platform made the process extremely efficient and helped us get it done in record time.”
The new Windows 8 app was developed by IBC’s Digital Engagement COE, a cross-functional team of mobile developers, IS experts and business managers who are charged with carrying out IBC’s long-term, multi-channel strategy, and creating new ways for the company to interact with members and prospects, particularly with the advent of healthcare reform in 2014.
“Healthcare reform will mean millions of individual consumers shopping for healthcare, so having all the right customer touch points will be more strategic than ever,“ said Mr. Russo. “As mobile devices proliferate, especially tablets, we need to be ready to interact with our clients on all channels, and make it easy for them to do business with us. Collaborating with Kony has helped us streamline our development process, minimize IT worries and focus on the care we provide to our members.”
