HOUSTON--(EON: Enhanced Online News)--On Thursday, November 14, 2013, in celebration and recognition of its Centennial, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) will present Houston in Concert Against Hate featuring the Houston Symphony at Jones Hall. ADL’s Southwest Region will present its Centennial Award to Houston attorney and lifelong civil rights champion Marvin D. Nathan.
“Each individual has fought hatred for many years, just as the ADL has”
The Centennial Award is given to the individual who best embodies and promotes the ideals of ADL and has devoted a lifelong career to support those ideals. ADL’s Southwest Region is recognizing Marvin “for his contributions in fighting anti-Semitism, racism, and discrimination and fighting for religious freedom for all.”
Marvin’s involvement in advocating civil rights began after law school, when he became a trial lawyer in the Civil Rights Division of the U.S. Department or Justice. There he investigated and prosecuted several significant cases before returning home to Houston and founding the firm that would later become Nathan Sommers Jacobs.
As part of the Houston in Concert Against Hate, ADL will recognize other community heroes representing a wide range of themes, from promoting civil rights to encouraging inclusive education for all.
“Each individual has fought hatred for many years, just as the ADL has,” said Martin B. Cominsky, ADL Southwest Regional Director. “Their commitment to justice and fair treatment for all is nothing short of legendary.”
The event is underwritten in part by the law firm of Nathan Sommers Jacobs, which has participated in ADL’s Community of Respect program for several years.
Nathan Sommers Jacobs was founded in 1970 by Marvin D. Nathan to provide experienced legal guidance, effective representation, and precise counsel. The firm’s expertise includes real estate, banking, bankruptcy, corporate and tax, trusts and estates, and litigation practice areas.
